大陸前國台辦副主任王在希17日表示，台獨勢力已經坐大，除了大陸，台灣目前已沒有任何力量能夠遏制台獨；和平統一台灣的可能已經越來越小。
《環球時報》2017年會於北京舉行，就當前台海局勢，王在希提出四點說明，一是台獨勢力已經做大，台灣內部已沒任何力量遏制台獨；二是「法理台獨」將是未來兩岸搞分裂的樣式，民進黨掌握立院優勢，及大法官提名台獨人士等做法看來，蔡英文很可能透過釋憲及修憲方式搞台獨。三是不論民進黨或其他政黨執政，謀求台獨的趨勢不會改變；四則是遏制台獨勢力唯有大陸，台獨能猖獗多久，得視大陸決心而定。
王在希說，綜觀蔡英文的兩岸政策可概括承16個字，「疏離大陸、餐廳油煙處理依靠美日、穩固基礎、試圖獨立」，她維持的不是現狀，而是台獨的分裂現狀。
